Level 3 Lift Truck and Powered Access Engineering Technician Apprenticeship

This 3-year programme provides the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours for service technicians working on a range of lift trucks and powered access machines. An apprenticeship that is suitable for someone who has left school and/or is new to the industry. This is an Advanced Apprenticeship which focuses on remove, refit, service, and inspection of units during the first two years and then a third year on fault diagnosis.

The assessment of this programme is through:

  • Online multiple-choice testing
  • Written assignments
  • Skills assessments in the workplace by mentors
  • Behaviour observations in the workplace by mentors
  • Gateway assessments
  • End Point Assessment (EPA)

The programme is delivered over 3 years, through 5 x 1-week training blocks per year, between these training blocks, apprentices will have a monthly one-on-one with their dedicated trainer. Throughout the programme apprentices will be required to build up a portfolio of work for the End Point Assessment, which will be taken at the end of the three years. The work-based skills assessments are carried out by the apprentice’s mentor/manager who they work alongside.

  • Health and Safety practices in the FLT and PA industry
  • Lift Truck and Powered Access Electrical units and components
  • Lift Truck and Powered Access Mechanical Handling, Chassis units and components
  • Lift Truck and Powered Access Engine units and components
  • Lift Truck and Powered Access Driveline units and components
  • Lift Truck and Powered Access Routine Maintenance and Inspection
  • Diagnostic and Rectification of Lift Truck and Powered Access Electrical units and components
  • Diagnostic and Rectification of Lift Truck and Powered Access Engine units and components
  • Diagnostic and Rectification of Lift Truck and Powered Access Mechanical Handling, Chassis units and components
  • Diagnostic and Rectification of Lift Truck and Powered Access Transmission and Driveline units and components

At the end of the apprenticeship, having passed the End Point Assessment (EPA) they will be a qualified Level 3 Lift Truck and Powered Access Engineer, with the ability to attend customer sites, diagnose the problem and have the ability to either economically repair or replace parts where necessary.
