– About the Course

This IPAF-certified PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) course is designed for individuals involved in the inspection, preparation, and familiarisation of MEWPs (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms) prior to delivery or handover. Whether you’re a service engineer, technician, or rental company operative, this course equips you with the knowledge and skills to ensure that machines are delivered to the highest safety standards.

Delivered by experienced IPAF instructors, this hands-on course complies with IPAF and manufacturer guidelines and prepares participants to complete PDIs to a consistent and recognised industry standard.

– Aims

  • To ensure delegates can carry out a thorough and systematic Pre-Delivery Inspection of MEWPs in accordance with IPAF and manufacturer requirements.
  • To increase awareness of machine safety, potential hazards, and the importance of documentation and compliance before handover to clients.
  • To improve the standardisation of PDI procedures across the powered access industry.

– Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key components of a MEWP that must be checked during a PDI.
  • Correctly perform a Pre-Delivery Inspection using IPAF checklists.
  • Recognise and report faults, defects, or potential safety issues.
  • Ensure that all required documentation and machine settings are in place before delivery or handover.
  • Understand the legal and safety implications of inadequate PDIs.

  • Introduction to IPAF and the importance of PDIs
  • Responsibilities of PDI personnel and duty of care
  • Overview of MEWP types (scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.)
  • Walkaround inspection methodology
  • Functional and safety system checks
  • Checking machine documentation (manuals, certificates, decals, etc.)
  • Common defects and how to address them
  • Correct completion of PDI checklists and records
  • Pre-delivery configuration, settings, and customer requirements
  • Assessment: Practical and/or written knowledge test

– Certification

Successful candidates will receive an IPAF PDI certificate of training, valid for 5 years, and recorded on the IPAF digital PAL Card system, where applicable.
