Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship

IMI – Intermediate Apprenticeship Lift Truck Maintenance and Repair Qualification (Level 2)

This programme provides the essential knowledge and competence for service technicians working on a range of lift trucks. This programme is suitable for someone who has left school and/or is new to the industry

Components of the Apprenticeship framework are:

  • VRQ (Vocational Related Qualification) Diploma in Lift Truck Maintenance and Repair at Level 2F-Tec Success Stories
  • VCQ (Vocational Competence Qualification) in Lift Truck Maintenance and Repair, Level 2
  • ERR (Employment rights and responsibilities)
  • Functional Skills – Literacy, Numeracy and ICT Qualifications at Level 2 if not achieved at school

The programme is fully supported and apprentices will have a login for an electronic training programme (E-Portfolio) that has been specifically designed to go alongside the qualification and the apprentices’ competence qualification will be uploaded to their e-portfolio.

The assessment of this programme is through:

  • Online multiple choice testinge portfolio imi
  • Skills assessments in the workplace by our F-TEC Assessors
  • Written assignments
  • Competence assessments in the workplace by our F-TEC Assessors

This programme is delivered by F-TEC as an Apprenticeship Programme and will include the VRQ Diploma and also combine the VCQ (Vocational Competence Qualification) and it is delivered over a two-year duration combining on and off the job training. The off the job training is delivered through 5 x 1-week training blocks per year over the two years. The work based assessments are carried out by our assessors on a ten-week schedule.

The programme is awarded by The IMI Awards (Institute of the Motor Industry) through our IMI accredited centre based in Swindon.

  2. Knowledge, Competence and Skills of Support for Job Roles in the Automotive Environment (G3)
  3. Knowledge, Competence and Skills of Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment (G4)
  4. Knowledge, Competence and Skills of Routine Lift Truck Vehicle Maintenance (LT01)
  5. Knowledge, Competence and Skills of Lift Truck Power Plant, Lubrication, and Cooling System Units and Components (LT02.1)
  6. Knowledge, Competence and Skills of Lift Truck Fuel, Ignition, Air and Exhaust System Units and Components (LT02.2)
  7. Knowledge, Competence and Skills of Removing and Replacing Lift Truck Electrical Units and Components (LT03)
  8. Knowledge, Competence and Skills of Removing and Replacing Lift Truck Mechanical Handling, Chassis Units and Components (LT04)
  9. Knowledge, Competence and Skills of Inspecting Lift Trucks (LT0506)
  10. Knowledge Competence and Skills of How to Identify and Agree Motor Vehicle Customer Service Needs (LT05)

Progression options

Once completing this intermediate qualification, the apprentice engineer can then progress onto the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Lift Truck Maintenance and Repair. This is an Advanced Apprenticeship and is more diagnostic focused and delivered over one year.
